Montjuïc Castle

An old military fortress, from the 17th Century was built on top of Montjuïc hill. Its first purpose was to control the city from the most strategic area of the city: its highest point that could reach both the city and the sea access. Thru the centuries, in all rebellions and battles of the modern history, the castle has become a key element to control the city in different battles, like the Spanish Civil war in 1936 or the Napoleonic invasion in 1808. Today, the Castle is an exhibition centre that offers some of the best sights over the city.
